What do Energy Medicine Experts Do When They Catch Covid?
Catching the most current strain of the CVD Omicron has been super interesting as an Energy Medicine Practitioner. Once I caught it, I became my own little "energy medicine lab bunny". Having become very kinaesthetic over my 6 years as an Eden Energy Medicine practitioner, I have been fascinated at how my body was letting me know this little gremlin was on its way in.
I check in with my energies daily and started noticing some irregularities happening at the beginning of June. My Kidney meridian energies in my feet - K-3 and K-7 acupoints started showing polarity issues. I saw 2 different colleagues, Eden Energy Medicine Advanced practitioners, who energy tracked the same irregularities happening with me as well.
Kidney is all about sucking in the lifeforce and depositing energy to all the other meridians in a flow-like cycle of distribution. My Kidney energy had become low, and my body stopped wanting to move forward in life. I immediately started doing 3-point flushes, which is a method of unclogging the pipes on the Kidney meridian channel, unblocking any stagnation in the conduits that send vital messaging throughout our bodies. I also got out my large stainless steel salad spoon and began to affect my polarities so I was really grounded by rubbing the bottoms of my feet and around my ankles and up the leg.
I started noticing certain “wind points” going out. These are points on our body that energetically can open up and allow illness to come in. My wind points behind my ears have always been a problem for me. I always need to wear earmuffs when I’m out in the cold, particularly if there is any type of wind. It’s a weak spot on me energetically and suddenly I noticed I was having trouble keeping them closed.
All my efforts were helping me to feel less burnt-out, and giving me little energy lifts, but my big toes started to give me signals that something wasn’t right. I kept getting sharp stabs on my Spleen 1 acupoint located on the medial side corner of the top of my big toenail, and on my Liver 1 acupoint located on the lateral side of the top of my big toenail. Our Spleen meridian energy helps us metabolize environmental toxins, viruses, nutrients, hormones, and even our emotions. Liver meridian energy directs all these different chemical messengers to distribute, offload and pass through us.
It had been a busy few months for me, and I had definitely been burning the candle at both ends. This opened me up to the energetics of tiredness, respiratory syndrome, aches and pains, agitated throat, chills, diarrhea, and eventually loss of smell and taste. The endless stress and worry of catching this menacing world illness only compounded my harassed nervous system leaving me feeling weary and with ideas that the world was unsafe.
I am in the business of health and wellness, and I make a point of doing daily self-care, but it took only one moment of weakness for this indiscriminating illness to get it’s hooks into me.
Once it had arrived, my body continued to let me know what it needed to heal from it. My Lung meridian source points that are located on the palm side of each hand, below the thumbs near the wrist began to become achy letting me know my lungs were becoming encumbered. Our bodies speak to us, and it was asking to be rubbed so the energy could flow more balanced.
Every time my Spleen 1 or my Liver 1 acupoint on either side of my big toe gave me a sharp jab I would trace these 2 meridians, firsts backwards and then forward 3x’s, deep flushing them to make sure these meridians were also staying in balance. I became curious about the Liver connection to this viral pathology as a friend had pointed me towards the newest research showing that catching this virus may cause an elevation in our Liver enzymes. I was drinking lots of lemon water hoping it would help me cope with this. Fortunately, in most cases elevated liver enzymes are usually mild, and most people recover without treatment.
I decided to look more closely at all my meridian systems and noticed that my Small Intestine Meridian also was showing an imbalance. This gremlin does can have a digestive upset component to it. I also began noticing my Bladder-63 acupoint was giving me some twinges, as there were these physical buzzing sensations going on in my lower abdomen where the Bladder neurolymphatics are located. My right hip, where our ileocecal valve is located, was also tight causing a pain down the lateral side of my leg. It was making it achy and difficult for me to sleep.
Britte, now a certified Osteopathic practitioner, looked at my hip and opened the constriction that was going on. She believed that my Small Intestine was being pulled across my body from my left lung lobe. My body was reacting like it does when I’ve ingested an allergen, setting off inflammation and making my nervous system become agitated.
That night the chills, sticky phlegm, and cough set in making it difficult to sleep. I had to sip on a glass of water every ½ hour to keep my throat from clogging up from the post nasal drip. I felt like I had a helmet on my head, I was grey in colour, had zero energy and suddenly I couldn’t taste or smell anything I was eating. I was shocked the next day, when trying to eat some sushi for my lunch, to have put a big chunk of Japanese Wasbi into my mouth, only to realize I couldn’t taste or even sense the burning nose rush one gets when doing this!
Sleeping as much as possible helped with the lack of energy. I continued to rub the front neurolymphatics on either side of and below the navel. I rubbed the center of my back behind the navel as well as this was nurturing my kidneys, adrenals and nervous system. The lack of energy was hard to ignore.
I had to get out the cough drops to help soothe the irritating itch that would force me to cough uncontrollably. Sadly, this one irritating symptom is still hanging around even though I’m testing negative again.
As timing had it my scheduled holidays had just begun so I headed to my cabin for 3 weeks and by the end of my stay, I started to get my energy back again. I had to be careful while I was there because if I did too much the fatigue would set back in. I had to hold myself back and learn to do no more than 1 chore a day, which is really a far more reasonable thing to be doing when one is on a holiday. It’s tough at the cabin that needs constant care. I just let things go and got to enjoy the ocean views and actually was able to read a book for a change. I realized this little virus had become a poignant messenger and had been telling me I really needed to slow down and take a break.
After my holiday at the cabin was over, I went back to Kamloops to help teach Class 2 of the Fundamentals level with Marianne Ferguson for Eden Method. My lingering incessant cough was interesting for this class of budding practitioners. Class 2 covers Alarm acupoints, which are points on the body that test weak when there is cause for alarm in a meridian. It also covers Sedating and Strengthening points, which is a technique a practitioner may use to bring back balance to a meridian that may be over or under energy.
As the demo person on the table, the combination of my disruptive cough, (with coughing fits after 20 minutes), and my natural self-consciousness to be lying down in front of everyone while Marianne worked on me, caused me me to have an over energized Bladder meridian, which governs the nervous system. Covid had left my Lung meridian under energy and no matter how many times anyone tried to strengthen it, it would become weak again after a few hours. My Circulation Sex Meridian (also known as Pericardium in Traditional Chinese medicine), the “protector of the heart”, was over energy and was also a challenge to keep it in balance.
The amazing students and Marianne became super energy sleuths and began working on these energetic imbalances and were able to send me home at the end of the class with lots of great exercises to help combat this annoying left-over symptom.
Who wants to be around someone with a cough during a pandemic!
By using my energy medicine insights, drinking lots of liquids, nasal rinsing, and cough drops, I’m beginning to reduce the amount of times I still need to cough.
After many weeks of going through this lesson of being forced to take care of myself I’m liking this new life pace. I’m feeling far more rested, less task driven and when I accomplish a task I have been rewarding myself and resting, soaking up the nature and sunshine, which I realize has been a much needed treat!
